Centre for Ibsen Studies, University of Oslo (Norway)
The Centre for Ibsen Studies is an international research and teaching institute dedicated to the life, works, and global reception of the playwright Henrik Ibsen (1828–1906). Bringing together expertise in literary, theatre, and reception studies, the centre attracts master students from around the world and is a leading actor in digital humanities.
Documentation and dissemination are central to the centre’s activities. Alongside our physical library collection, we maintain a number of innovative digital resources that are continuously expanded and updated. Our main digital platform, The Virtual Ibsen Centre, provides comprehensive access to databases and materials related to Ibsen’s life and works, including:
- IbsenStage – a global database of more than 26.000 Ibsen performances
- Henrik Ibsens skrifter (HISe) – a scholarly, annotated edition of Ibsen’s complete works
- The International Ibsen Bibliography – references to more than 40.000 texts on and by Ibsen
- The Multilingual Ibsen – translations into multiple languages
- VR model – an on-site virtual reality reconstruction of Ibsen’s first theatre
- Image archive – of performance documentation, Ibsen’s artwork, and portraits
Together, these resources form a unique digital infrastructure for Ibsen research and documentation. We also co-publish Ibsen Studies with Taylor & Francis, a biannual international journal dedicated to Henrik Ibsen and his global impact, and a key venue for Ibsen scholarship.
